Pride Round: 17 - 18 June
Camberwell Hockey Club is again proud to be supporting Pride Round from 16-21st June 2023 to promote diversity, inclusion, and acceptance within hockey and our club.
Pride Round helps send a message that everyone is welcome in our sport and at our club, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Pride Round can also help to raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Young players in particular can often feel excluded and are less likely to participate in sports as they get older, and often do not see role models at the top of the sport.
CHC has been an active member in breaking down these barriers in recent years, but we can always strive for better, so we’d encourage all members to think about how you can be more inclusive with your own behaviour and language.
Be part of Pride Round at Camberwell Hockey Club by:
Attending our ‘Empowering Allies’ education sessions on Thursday 16th June or Wednesday 21st June. Open to all players, coaches and parents;
Wearing Rainbow Socks for all home teams over Round 9 and 10; and
Signing up for next year’s Stand Out Cup in Footscray!
The club will also have decorations around the clubhouse and host the pride flag on the scoreboard during matches. Show your support by tagging CHC on socials in any photos you take over the weekend!
We’d encourage every team to take a moment before the game to make sure all players feel supported. We are very proud to have an amazing group of LGBTQIA+ players from all sections of the club, so even if you don’t know who they are, some words of encouragement will go a long way for them.
We encourage everyone to have fun and be an active part of Pride Round 2023!
Pride Round Socks and Ribbons
The club has provided Pride rainbow socks for all senior teams playing at Matlock for Round 9 and 10. Team managers and coaches will have access to them, but if you have your own pair already, feel free to wear them. We ask that once done, please return them immediately after your game or as quickly as possible so we may continue to use them for all home teams.
Juniors will also have access to rainbow ribbons if they wish to wear them. They can be in your hair, on shoe laces or tied around a stick!
Feel free to get into the fun spirit with face paint, glitter, you name it! Just a reminder that apart from socks, the regular camberwell uniform must still stay the same.
Stand Out Cup 2024
Every year in February, Footscray Hockey Club has hosted an amazing, fun social hockey event celebrating the strong LGBTQIA+ community in hockey. It is an event for all with competitive, social and new to hockey formats so everyone can have a go. With Pride Round coming into focus, it would be great to get some Camberwell representation for future years, so if you’re interested or want to even bring some friends from outside the club along, let us know so we can try to make a team or 2!
