Episode 6 - Travis Brooks
This weekend our Men’s Premier League team we’re scheduled to do battle with Waverley for the Bert Batch Cup, the annual cup match between Camberwell and Waverley Hockey Clubs, in memory of Bert Batch and his enormous contribution to Victorian hockey and the Waverley Hockey Club.
The longstanding rivalry between Waverley and Camberwell began in the 1980’s, where the two clubs dominated the era winning 5 premierships each between 1981 and 1992. Since then, Waverley and Camberwell have been the leading clubs in Victorian hockey and the Bert Batch Cup signifies this rivalry and respect of excellence.
Established in 1996, the cup frequently is amongst some of the biggest blockbuster matches of the season as two of Victoria’s largest and most dominant hockey clubs go head to head.
This week Hamish Ridland is joined by Waverley and Kookaburras superstar Trav Brooks OAM to reminisce over cups past and the on-going rivalry between two of the Victorian hockey heavyweights. Trav played 143 times for the Kookaburras winning Olympic, Commonwealth & Champions Trophy gold.
