Episode 21 - Rob Dalton
Sport Australia is a peak government body managing a $400m budget and overseeing around 100 national sporting associations with a brief covering everything from grass roots participation to elite performance programs. This week Wansey is back presenting Sport Australia CEO Rob Dalton.
Before his Sport Australia role, Rob of-course will be familiar to many listeners for his 10 year tenure as chair of Hockey Victoria. He should also be well know to Tigers fans as a board member who inherited a $6m debt in 2004 and oversaw a program that revitalised the finances, developed alternative revenue streams and now sees the club with some $35m in the bank - and a couple of premierships along the way.
Closer to our hearts though you’ll hear how in 1979 Tony Thornton & Al Carnell had a chat with a young Rob Dalton and encouraged a move over to Camberwell Hockey Club.
Rob became a premiership player, a member of our Team of the Century and with coach Argus and superstar players like Wayne Thornton and Wansey himself ushered in the golden era of the 80s and laid the foundations of our continued success today.
